Kyu Uhm (Seminar on Korean Business in an International Context)    kyuuhm@gmail.com

 

Renowned as “Mr. PC”, the legend of Samsung PC, Professor Kyu Uhm brings 30 years of experience at Samsung Electronics to the lecture hall. Uhm spent nearly half his time with the electronics giant working on global PC sales and marketing where he rewrote Samsung’s PC history. He rose to the position of Senior Vice President and President of Central and Eastern Europe where he headed seven Samsung subsidiaries active in 18 countries. Based on his illustrious work experience and successes in growing Samsung’s brand in the PC and laptop market, Uhm affirms, “Sales and marketing is an art, and business comes from the people.”

 

Uhm originally earned his BS in Electronic Engineering from SKKU in 1980. In 1994, he completed the Executive Program in Strategic Marketing at the University of Pittsburgh, and in 2005 he completed a course in Business Marketing Strategy at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

 

 

Navrati Saxena (Smart Phones: The Great Leap Towards Ubiquitous Computing)    navrati@skku.edu


Prof. Navrati Saxena is Associate Professor and Director of Mobile Ubiquitous Systems Information Center (MUSIC) in the School of Information and Communication Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University.

 

She worked as an assistant professor at Amity University in India and as a visiting researcher in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Texas in Arlington, USA. She completed her Ph.D. from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunication at the University of Trento in Italy. Prior to that, she acquired her master’s and bachelor’s from Agra University and Kanpur University in India, respectively. She has been awarded the Governor’s Gold Medal and various other medals for being an outstanding and highest-scoring student in both her bachelor's and master’s degrees.

 

Her primary research interests include 4G/5G wireless, IoT in healthcare, smart grids, video over wireless, name data networking, and ubiquitous/smart environments. She has served as the Guest Editor of Springer EURASIP Journal of Wireless Communication and Networking and served in the technical program committee of many international conferences. She has co-authored one book (published by Taylor and Francis, USA). She has been published in more than 20 international journals and more than 20 international conferences.

 

 

Youngeun Jang (Korean Culture and Society)    stir98@daum.net

 

Professor Jang is a visiting professor at SKKU in interdisciplinary studies. She teaches Korean Studies, has a history with over a dozen universities, and is active in research relating to East Asian culture, society, history, and Korean culture, particularly literature.

 

She graduated with a Ph.D. in East Asian Studies from SKKU in 2007 and with an MS in Korean Literature from SKKU in 2001. Lately, she has consulted throughout Asia with private groups and individuals, cultural foundations, and international organizations. She is interested in the changes in Korean society.
