SKKU Overview

Unique Origin, Unique Future

One of Asia’s oldest universities, Sungkyunkwan University (SKKU) was founded in 1398 shortly after Seoul became the capital of Korea at the dawn of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910). For more than 500 years, the university educated the leadership of Korea and maintained its status as one of the world’s most important centers of Confucian learning.  Much of SKKU’s historic Seoul campus has been preserved, and is now designated as a national heritage site.

Today, SKKU is a university with its Humanities and Social Science Campus in Seoul and its Natural Sciences Campus in Suwon.  Since 1996, SKKU has been generously supported by Samsung, the world’s largest technology company.  Through this unique partnership, SKKU has developed world-leading academic programs in software development, mobile communications engineering, energy engineering, and nanotechnology.  It also collaborated with MIT Sloan School of Management for graduate business education.

As a university with a 600 year legacy of nurturing global leaders, and one that is at the forefront of the global technology revolution, SKKU invites you to meet the world and explore Korea.

This is the place to rediscover the past and set a course for the future.
